A lovely finale to this project! Those back pleats look stunning, such perfect matching and so C18th! Very well done!

(By the way, is this silk mill in Sudbury open to the public? I have family there, but don't really know the area - if there are silk shops there, I need to acquaint myself with them!!)

Stephen Walters Silk Factory   Hi Gentlewomanthie f

Yes, the silk mill is open to the public. They have a remnant shop that is open most days. Its only 15 minutes drive from me and about 45 minutes or so from Julia. We often go and haunt it. Its on the road just leading out of Sudbury towards Bures.

Bess.

Thank you, Gentlewomanthie f - I certainly loved working on this outfit. As well as Staphen Walters in Sudbury, there is also Vanners and Gainsborough silk mills. Vanners often has lovely grosgrain and satin remnants but is only open Thursday mornings. Gainsborough silks don't have a factory shop as such, but if you phone them up, they will happily let you rummage in their stockroom (although prices start at £30/mtr and go much higher. Occasionally there is a small piece of something cheaper, but very rarely). It is worth a trip regardless, as the route to the stockroom goes through the weaving floor - where, apart from the fact that the looms now plug into the wall, nothing else has changed for 200 years - absolutely fascinating for textile bods!

That's a great guide to fabric in the area - thank you, Julia!
