For some of our members, Your Wardrobe Unlock'd can be life changing, bringing new skills, new confidence, and even a new career. Last year's competition winner, Canadian costumer Rachel Kerby, shares her journey.

"It would be devastating to lose these two great resources. Your Wardrobe Unlock'd and Foundations Revealed have been beneficial to so many people.

"I was so excited to find both resources in 2010. I had just finished a year long Costume program for stage and screen, and while I did learn a lot in the program, it was nothing compared to what I have learned through your websites. I am an accomplished seamstress with over 20 years experience sewing, but costuming has been a new direction for me, with so much more to learn. There is so much knowledge in one place and it is the first place I go when I'm taking on a new project, or just for the fun of browsing all the interesting articles.

"Winning the Costume Competition last year gave me the confidence to put myself out there and sell my period inspired gowns as a part time business. It's been a slow process only taking baby steps as I learn and grow. I am so inspired by the many talented writers and members who put themselves out there and are able to make money doing what they love to do. It encourages me to continue what I am doing.

"I have attached a professionally shot photo of my winning gown [left], much better than the photos I submitted to the contest. This gown was purchased by a lady in Texas who will be wearing it to next year's Venice Carnival. I also made a custom version of this gown in pink for a lady in Italy who wore it to this year's Venice Carnival. It's been a magical dress for me :)"

Thank you very much to Rachel for kindly sharing her journey. We're delighted to see how well you're doing, Rachel, and we wish you all the best with your new venture!
