Very, very interesting. I have a couple of questions:
What is the minimum number of petticoats should wear a dress of 1840?
What order dress?
Thank you very much
A woman should probably wear at least three petticoats: an under petticoat, a petticoat, and a top petticoat. Of course, this can vary. More petticoats give more volume. And I believe that I read that women generally wore 3-5 petticoats. The order of getting dressed would be: chemise, drawers and stockings, then corset, then petticoats and corset cover. Over that would go the dress. I hope this helps!
