THis article is awesome - but actually, I'm really interested in your gaiters/spats. I'd like to interpret this one reference as gaiters for construction purposes, but I haven't found a lot of examples of scalloped-edge gaiters like the pic you have there. Can you tell me more about them?
I based the spats I made on extant Victorian boots that have scalloped edges with buttons. If you browse Pinterest, you can find many examples. I don't have any historical references for actual spats/gaiters with scalloped edges, though. They are much harder to find than extant boots!
