12259350173 825d9842eb mMy entry is a 1920s reimagining of the Batman villain Poison Ivy, as represented by Uma Thurman in the 1997 movie Batman and Robin.

This costume represents my favorite villain, my favorite color, and an opportunity to indulge in some of my favorite techniques. It consists of a self-dyed green silk chiffon dress with matching scarf. The dress is embellished with gold glass beading and self-dyed dark green silk velvet ivy leaves with gold silk embroidery veins. With all the shiny, I think the most overlooked detail that I'm exceptionally proud of would be the eight yards of handstitched rolled hem on the skirt.

The costume is accessorized with an elaborately beaded, self-dyed gold silk drawstring purse. The gloves were an adventure in silk painting techniques on purchased nylon gloves. The shoes were a refurbished second hand pair of strappy heels, painted with gold leaf.

That is such an exciting color! Well done, lady! :) I do love the little beads sprinkled all over, and the shoulder decoration. And wow -- 8 yards of hand-sewn hem! It falls beautifully.

Love your concept - the "villainess" personified! You cannot imagine how much I admire your steadfast purpose in doing the hand hemming of all that silk chiffon, either - hats off to your beautiful costume!

Thank you. I found a tutorial for the hemming that had you do up 4-5 inches at a time, then pull the thread to roll the whole section at once. That really sped the process up.

Seeing this just really makes me want them to make a re-imagined version of Batman set in the 20s!

The cut of the dress is beautifully flattering, especially the scarf neck and the handkerchief hem - don't worry you can definitely tell some time and love has gone into that hem!

The colour is perfect for Poison Ivy and the gloves really add a touch of the original movie costume.

It wasn't a hard leap to make. Batman takes place in such a dark world to begin with, the film noir feel is aleady there. Thank you so much.
