Great article, Polly! You remind me of an anecdote told by my dear friend Claudia, who is a costume checker at Much Ado About Sebastopol, a 16th c re-enactment weekend in California. She says that on one occasion a participant made her day by wearing a *creased* apron. In other words, the apron told a story that this was a lady wearing her best apron, which was usually kept folded in a cupboard and was only brought out on special occasions. Claudia said that that one creased apron made her little costuming heart very happy that day!
