YWU2014 Winner! This costume is not an exact copy, but a stylized version of the gentleman on the right hand side of the painting "Dignified Couples Courting" by the Netherlands artist Willem Pietersz Buytewech. It was painted in the years 1616 to 1620 and is now available to see at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.

I did not want to imitate the material but to create the silhouette. I also wanted to make the hat and remake the shoes myself.

After doing my research I created a pattern, using Norah Waugh's and Janet Arnold's books.

WOW!
This one is amazing from top to toe--literally. Love the attention to detail and the fantastic fit. Goodness, you could step out of a time machine and completely blend into 1616! Well done.

This entry really stood out to me, what a beautiful job. Stunning clean lines and crisp detailing. Now I'd love to see you along side recreations of the other outfits in the portrait!

This costume is amazing, especially for a beginner. The brilliant fit and attention to detail on things like the cuffs and the buttonholes are what really make this look the part, well done!

I really love your costume. The details are fantastic to look at.
I'm just wondering why you didn'n enter as an "Experienced", since you seem to be a professional costumer?
